News Summary

South Korea's Ministry of Unification stated on Tuesday that North Korea is increasing internal control over its military and citizens, apparently aiming to quell any opposition to the regime's decision to deploy troops in support of Russia's war against Ukraine.

North Korea convened the 4th Conference of Battalion Commanders and Political Instructors of the Korean People's Army (KPA) from November 14 to 15. Prior to this, such conferences had been conducted only three times in the country's history.

“Hosting a rare conference for the first time in 10 years seems not only aimed at quelling any military or internal unrest regarding North Korea's troop dispatch to Russia, but also at fostering hostility toward South Korea and the outside world...The regime is worried that public discontent could increase if there are casualties or if rumors about the troop deployments spread," a senior unification ministry official stated.

Commentary

It seems like the Kim regime is making every effort to quell any discontent among its citizens and military concerning the deployment of its troops to Russia. Increasing tensions with the South via trash balloons is also one of its tactics to distract North Koreans from the troop deployment.

Despite its intense efforts, the North Korean people are already aware of the truth due to technology, unlike in the past. The Kim regime can no longer deceive and fool its people through fabricated indoctrination.

So, the more the Kim regime attempts to censor news regarding the troop deployment and oppress its citizens, the more likely internal unrest will occur. Holding such a rare conference strongly indicates the dire situation in which the Kim regime finds itself.

As more news of the casualties of North Korean soldiers in Russia comes, the 70-year tyranny of the Kim regime might be brought to an end by its own people.
