News Summary

Dr. Edwin Feulner, the founder of The Heritage Foundation, a prominent U.S. think tank, said that the chances of Korean unification are currently at their peak. During his attendance at the Korean Dream Unification Practice March in Imjingak, Paju on September 27, Dr. Feulner delivered a congratulatory speech, stating, “It seems to me that at this time, the prospects for Korean unification are stronger than they ever have been."

During a joint interview with local media in Seoul, Dr. Feulner mentioned that North Koreans are becoming more discontent with their leadership and are looking up to South Korea for its democracy and economic prosperity. He added that North Korean citizens are observing what free individuals can accomplish, not just in terms of economic progress, but also in how civil society tackles social problems.

Commentary

Dr. Feulner's remarks provide further evidence that the Kim regime could come to an end from within. Therefore, prioritizing information operations and promoting a message of freedom to the people of North Korea should be the primary focus of North Korea policy for both the current South Korean government and the next U.S. administration.

At the same time, South Korea and its allies must be fully prepared for a potential large-scale military conflict with North Korea, as the regime is on the brink of collapse. This is because under the current instability Kim Jong Un faces, he can only maintain control over and mobilize the North Korean population by escalating military tensions dramatically in the Korean Peninsula. If South Korea resolves to fight for the freedom of "all" Koreans and not to compromise, change will ultimately come from within, leading to the collapse of the Kim regime.
