News Summary
South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun on Thursday called North Korean troops being sent to Russia as "cannon fodder mercenaries," accusing Kim Jong Un of selling his soldiers "for an illegal war of aggression."
Kim spoke during a parliamentary audit session at the National Assembly, saying, "When troops are dispatched overseas, they usually maintain their country's chain of command and proudly conduct activities with their military uniform, insignia and flag. North Korea is being disguised with a Russian uniform and acting under Russian military command without any operational authority. They are assessed to be mere cannon fodder mercenaries. Kim Jong Un has sold his people's army for an illegal war of aggression."
Commentary
Kim Yong Hyun could not describe North Korean troops sent to Russia better than he did as "cannon fodder mercenaries." This is exactly what Kim Jong Un did to his own soldiers: selling them for money and military technology to maintain his regime.
This is the worst decision Kim Jong Un could possibly made as a leader before his regime falls. It will lead to a strong backlash from his own military that cannot just wait to be sent to a foreign land for death. Once they hear the fate of their fellow soldiers sent to Russia as cannon fodder, they will no longer tolerate the tyranny of the Kim regime.
South Korea should focus on targeting North Korean soldiers at the DMZ border with the message that they deserve a better life than being enslaved by Kim Jong Un and used as cannon fodder mercenaries. Although it requires courage and patience to stand firm against the Kim regime's vicious threats, South Korea will soon see how the message of truth sets them free from their lifelong deception and bondage.
